Sigh.
It's not like we could use experienced defenders, thanks Marc!
Fucking fire this prick, jesus fucking hell
Hold the hate. Wilmots followed his medical staff and took the decision WITH Lombaerts. He couldn't have known Nicolas would heal so quickly and made the right decision by calling up Christian. The only mistake he made was to bring Lombaerts to training camp and give him hope. It would be unfair to drop a fully fit player for him, as the 23 players deserve to be there and Lombaerts could reverse back into an injury. So I think it is totally unfair to blame Wilmots, yes he could be a better coach but this is not something you should plant that on him.
He could have included him in the 23 and put Kabasele on the reserve list. If Lombaerts wasn't fit he could still call up Kabasele as a reserve. But the reverse isn't possible unless someone else gets injured, so Lombaerts is out. Now we're one Vermaelen injury removed from Ciman* and Kabasele.
Didn't Boyata already leave, because he's also injured?
AFAIK he took the decision by himself because Lombaerts came out pretty quick that he was confident he would heal in time. The whole situation sucks, we could have used him.
He could have put Lombaerts on the list, and replaced him if he didn't get fit in time. Of course it could mean not being able to replace a potential other injured player.
Wilmots just doesn't like taking chances and plays it safe. You can see that in all his decisions. Unfortunately that's not how you win prizes. You need to take certain risks if you want to win big.
