I mean.. Say all you want about Russian AND English hooligans but the Russian ultras have had this fixture circled for months.
Theres violence from both sides but at least the English violence is in defense and not premeditated.
Yea, Russian ultras were out looking for a fight. They travel to games in groups for the sole purpose of fighting other groups of ultras. And they expect to face resistance. That's their idea of fun. I just read a first person account of the day from the perspective of one of them. Google Translate will butcher it, but if someone wants to read it, it's here.
Yep instead today they decided to beat up everyone in their path, including old men, women and people cowering in fear on the floor.
Yeah it seems very England 80's.. I really don't think England are the type to start this shit these days but the English aren't ones to back down when provoked/attacked.
Heh the last paragraph of the post actually says that apparently the English who fought back were Millwall, so it was "cool to fight with true English hooligans", so you can see they clearly romanticize this shit
the English who fought back were Millwall
Truth is Millwall have a fairly small fanbase with a now relatively retired firm. Chances of coming up against a select group of these in a pretty mainstream group of England supporters are next to zero, so like you said the clearly just romanticizing an era that died out 20 years ago in England. They would have mainly bene up against young lads and families with no involvement of that side of the game.

Not really. Not in the way that these Russian guys literally sit in a room and plan this shit out.
There's a reason England and Premier league games have been clean for years and now this happens when we play Russia.
But trying to argue this is a losing battle since England appears to be the most hated footballing nation so meh whatever
This is probably true, The Russians seem very organised where as the English are just retaliating, but the moment you do retaliate your all as bad in my book. I only have sympathy for the bar owners, their staff and the locals who live in that square. The fella who was on the ground at the end of that video wouldn't of been in that situation if he'd of just gone elsewhere the moment the first bottle was thrown. I just hope that on Thursday when we play Wales that the English and Welsh can been seen mixing together and showing the world that they just want a bit of a party.
I'd be very surprised to see any trouble between England and Wales, should be a good atmosphere.
That's what I'm hoping. Trouble is the press won't report of big groups of rival fans all having a jolly good time.

England don't even have hooligan gangs like this anymore whereas you can see the Russian gangs all wearing the same shit. It's entirely planned.
England fans are loud and crass at times so they're not just going to go down without a fight but it's not organised and England fans aren't the type to throw the first stone anymore.

Could've fooled me.
How? There has been literally no planning of this by the England fans whereas theres proof the Russian fans have had this planned for months.
No its not

Find me a source from anywhere that states English fans were planning to attack Russians. Downvote him all you like but it's clearly true and there is evidence to back it up. You think the charge in the stadium was a coincidence too? It was obviously premeditated and if you can't see that you are blind.
Ah yes...the Mirror. Such quality "evidence".
Eh i did a bunch of reading on the Russian-hooligan-perspective side of things, and the Russians definitely wanted this. They wanted to provoke the English and instigate a fight. Groups of ultras from all over the country traveled to France for the sole purpose of fighting. They seek out and attack those who they think are the ultras/hooligans of the other country. The English aren't 'fun' to fight with because they throw shit instead of going hand-to-hand and are too old/fat/drunk/etc. Poles/Ukranians/Turks/Balkan ultras are 'fun' because they also like to throw down.
And the French thought ISIS were the biggest threat to peace and safety during the Euros. Bloody hooligans at it again just like the old days.
ISIS were gonna do something, saw this, then thought "fuck that, we're out"
ISIS decided to stay home due to safety concerns.
I heard one ISIS guy was heading into the stadium, but then he was beaten up by the local hooligans for looking suspiciously brown.
found this earlier:

Start of a new rivalry this. Another to our list.
Lol @ the very last clip though...
Yea that poor guy actually got seriously fucked up. There's a picture of him floating on twitter, it's pretty gruesome..
Holy shit, Francois Clegane at 1.45
Are they singing Katyusha? lol Love those Russian folk songs. Also, Heineken must be loving all the publicity.
Yep that's Katyusha

One of the Russian ultras was a Lawyer, A LAWYER! Jeez. He was talking about being an ultra and their intentions. It is crazy when we have intelligent, well educated guys becoming hooligans.
Its always been like that though. Doctors, consultants, lawyers, you name it, hooligans come in all shapes and sizes.
Holy shit, that was an insane amount of glass shattering, it is fucking raining bottles in that video.
Aluminum cans would make this a lot less dramatic
That would make sense but then you have prissy fucks complaining about how their beer tastes.
Has france never hosted euro before? They (police, merchants, etc) seem so unprepared for this. As soon as the schedule came out my thought was "I'd love to see that game but it will be targeted by the hooligans and ultras." Shame, i'd love to have taken my boys but fuck that.
They hosted a World Cup 18 years ago.
Yeah I cannot see any possible reason as to why Russia hosting the next world cup could be problematic...
Someone posted earlier that the police/military will likely use as much force as necessary to stop violent crowds like we're seeing in Marseille. I can see that happening, but a lot more individual attacks on foreigners.
All those glass bottles are as much a defining element of this tournament as the vuvuzelas in 2010.
hopefully this shows up on one of Rick Steves travel shows
This isn't even half of it either. There are a bunch of posts on Twitter. Things went like this well in to the night.
Bloody animals

Yeah the Mexican fans are the worst /s
who says that?
I could tell you at least 20 (or more) nations "known" for football related hooliganism before I would think of Mexico.
tbh I do not think if Mexico fans would even cross my mind in that regards
Mexican fans have a bad rep, but it's based mostly around behavior in the stands designed to disrupt the game (throwing things on the field, laser pointers, etc). It's not even in the same league as this stuff.
Where on earth did you get that idea? NAH! I understand your sarcasm but let's be honest every country has their bad apples and people who don't know how to behave.
Happens everywhere.
Except Japan, they're nice and clean
[deleted]
Notice how they all run when the police get there? Which shows they're bitches.
They probably just don't want to get arrested to be honest mate.
They're probably upset with their shitty life and wife constantly nagging in their ears they take it out on anyone.
This is a proper Reddit comment.
Edit: actually your whole comment is proper reddity

I... like hooligans.
They can't be expected to be brighter than the dimwits on the pitch so let them have their fun.
You're retarded mate.
If they were smoking weed instead of drinking there would have been no problems.
DAE LEGALISE WEED?!?!??!?!
Fucking Reddit, christ
Stoners are fucking arseholes. Smoking a joint doesn't make you bloody John Lennon.
Am I the only one that find these videos quite entertaining ?
[deleted]
I agree with you
I understand and condemn it, but it's still fascinating to watch.
You understand random shitbreads from a third world country with a combined iq of 80 fighting in the street after a fucking sports match?
As someone who doesn't normally watch football, a large part of your supporterbases are animals who should be shot.
that's nice, dear
