A Guide To Recovering From Rejection
"I'm sorry. I don't feel the same way."
It comes at you like a katana wielded by thin air.
You thought you shared the same feelings.
You were wrong.
Here you are.
Sitting alone in your room,
crying,
begging someone or something to save you from bleeding out.
I'm sorry to say,
you can only save yourself.
Look at what this has taught you.
No, not that you can't trust yourself or your instincts,
but it has taught you that life doesn't always work out in your favor.
It has provided you with humility,
it has provided you with a neuron connection in your mind,
a tale to recite to your children.
Ah, my friend.
You're still a fountain, aren't you?
I'm not going to tell you there are "plenty of fish in the sea",
even if it's what's required to cut off the plumbing to this fountain.
I'm not going to tell you that it's all going to be ok,
because you know that already.
I WILL tell you that you are wiser than you were beforehand.
Your heart is bigger,
your brain is stronger.
"Why?", you may ask yourself.
The next katana that stabs you,
it doesn't hurt as badly as it did today.
Your heart becomes thicker,
your tolerance to this hard liquor of failure becomes greater.
Son,
this isn't the last rejection you will experience in your life.
Far from it.
But,
realize that every single rejection you receive,
leads you down into a path in a mine full of coal,
to the only gemstone.
That gemstone will change your life.
Your book is far from complete.
This is simply a page,
a sentence,
a word, even,
Your diamond is many, many chapters.
This girl,
she isn't your diamond, I'm sad to say.
Now get out of bed, son.
Let's go toss the football,
go watch tv,
or play video games,
and realize that you're more a man than you were before this "incident".
Congrats,
you just got over your first rejection.
