Generation X

Feedback Received!

We are the next generation,

X, Y or Selfie whichever you prefer

Because we turn our wheels

Like we’re the first people on Earth.

We’ll just google it later becomes

More commonly said, just under

Don’t slut shame me, because even though

We live amongst starving people

We decide that phones are more important.

Think, search, know.

We are the new age, modern thinkers

Flow, the rebranding and the past.

A to B becomes A to screens becomes

Raising children in the nonexistent suburbs.

Look down, look up, we don’t see the things we should see

Like the car incoming or your bride to be

We trade things for our unlimited knowledge

Like our attention, money, or right to free college

Or university, it doesn’t matter anyway

We were never going there at the end of the day.

And rules disintegrate, like rhymes

In poems or rhythm, pulsating becoming longer

And longer. We cannot handle what we don’t understand.

Shoot up with drugs and become sedated

Live life looking through rose-coloured shades

Sun shining through, ozone tearing

Water rising. Obsession is rampant, like body image

Or negativity. Drive us forward, lead us along

Be the path to run away from

What we have left at our fingertips,

Power becoming too much- like superheroes

In comic books, or graphic novels because PC becomes

Culture standardized and “defeat the patriarchy”

Is regurgitated synonymously with the words like

Misogyny or white girl problems. We let our

Power go to our heads and even though it seems like

We have everything we need, it all slips away

Like water rushing through the sand on the beach.

Think, search, know.

Generation X is just beginning.
