Guardians at Home: Part 1
It was the smell that hit me first. As soon as the door to the dormitory opened the smell of overcooked meat met my nose. My neighbor, a rather overzealous Titan, had invited me over for dinner. While i was at first surprised when my Ghost gave me the message, but I politely accepted.
As I walked through the entryway, my neighbor greeted me,
"Hiya Sarech!" The large dark-skinned man's voice booms across the small space.
"Hi. Tyson, isn't it?"
The large man nodded,
"How's life?"
I sat down at his table,
"Not bad, I'm just back from a 2 week tour on Mars. I'm going to have sand in my boots for weeks."
Tyson chuckled,
"I haven't been on Mars for, oh a few months, maybe a year."
"It hasn't changed much. Still infested with Cabal, though when I rotated out , we'd just established a semi-permanent foothold near Firebase Rubicon."
"That's good news." A loud beep emanates from the kitchen.
"Ah, that would be dinner." Tyson stood and walked over to the oven. He opened the door and pulled out two sets of ribs. He walked over and slapped one set onto my plate.
"Dig in." I nodded and looked around for a knife and fork. Tyson sat down and stared at me.
"What are you doing?"
"Looking for utensils."
Tyson laughed,
"You're kidding, right?"
I shook my head. He laughed again. As he did so, he ripped a large chunk of meat from his portion and chowed down. I tentatively copied him, albeit with much less haste or gusto. As he dived into his third, or possibly his fourth, rib, I finished my first. it tasted of smoke, and five spices, and tender meat, almost certainly made of glimmer, but hey.
"You like 'em?"
I opened my mouth to speak, but sorely regretted it when I woke up the next day.
