Android box not detecting external 1TB HDD

Hey guys! So I'm having a weird problem with my Android TV box.

So, I had a 1TB external hard drive laying around and I decided to use it (why not?). I formatted it to exFAT and put some things there, namely movies, backups, etc.

The main purpose of it was having more space to watch movies though. So I connect the HDD to my box and surprise surprise, it doesn't seem to detect it. Well, actually it does! It tells me to mount or erase USB storage 1 (that's connected with a Y cable). So there should be no problems, right? Wrong! What happens is that once I click it, either I need to wait a while or not, it always ends up in the same result: it asks again to mount. And it's an endless loop.

So I dug out my older HDD with 3 partitions. I put some random movie on the 2nd partition that's formatted to NTFS, and, although it seems to work with my box, it detects the wrong partition, which is FAT32! The NTFS partition doesn't show up at all.

So you might be telling me to just format my HDD to FAT32, yeah? Well, I probably should, but I put a 16GB flash drive formatted to NTFS and -- behold! -- it works fine.

So yeah, I'm at a loss here. Any ideas? I don't know what's the model of my box unfornately. :/

TL:DR: 1TB exFAT HDD is detected by Android box but doesn't mount, another HDD detects the wrong partition FAT32 (I want the NTFS partition), NTFS flash drive is detected normally and works fine.

Does the HDD have an auxiliary power connector?

What do you mean? I'm using a Y cable for it, it should work fine, right? It's a 1TB My Passport from Western Digital, says it's portable.

I mean is it drawing all it's power from one USB plug? Or does it get power from the y connector as well?

I'm not sure what you mean, sorry... Both USB ends are connected in 2 USB ports

I also tried a regular one and it doesn't work either

I'm not sure how Android handles external disks with multiple partitions. Is the 4GB limit of FAT32 why you're not using it?
