how to choose which Pokemon for gym battle

Question

Sorry for this dumb question! I've read all the gym guides and can't figure this part out. I want to raise the prestige of a gym near me. I clicked the battle button on the bottom right once I was at the gym, but the game would only give me the option of one particular Pokemon to choose (an Arcanine that I didn't want to battle with). How do I switch it to a different Pokemon? Do Pokemon have to meet certain requirements before being able to battle?

Just tap on your arcanine and it'll bring up your list of pokemon.

tap the pokemon (arcanine) and you will see ur other pokemon that you can battle with

Are you sure you're challenging an opposing gym? If you're challenging a gym that is owned by your team, you can only challenge with one Pokemon. Also, tapping the Pokemon during this menu should give you the option of swapping it with another.
