All these mediocre games by Double Fine really keep filling me with a sense if dread for Psychonauts 2. Can it live up to the first? I hope so.
Headlander isn't mediocre. It's a good game at a reasonable price.
I think the problem with headlander is doublefine makes comedy games with adventure aspects, not the other way round. That's why psychonauts worked, and why psychonauts 2 will work. headlander was more of an adventure game with comedy kind of added in at the last minute, like yahtzee said, as kind of an 'obligation'.
Comedy pervades the game's visual design. You don't add that kind of sexed up '70s sci-fi aesthetic at the last second out of "obligation."
Double fine games have always been rough around the edges, though. This isn't a recent trend, this is how their game have worked since the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I'm as excited for Phychonauts 2 as I've been for any recent game, but anyone who is expecting it to be flawless hasn't been paying attention.
For what it's worth I really enjoyed headlander. Not gonna blow you away but it's got some cool ideas and mechanics that makes it a good fun 5-6 hours.
I enjoyed it too. It was a surprising decent Metroidvania game. It could have used a little more variety when it came to level designs, but I had fun with it. The floating head and swapping body aspect were great too.
I also enjoyed it, though to be fair I enjoy most Metroidvania games that I play.
Honestly, I found Psychonauts to be a bit mediocre when I first played it. I was surprised when it had a cult following. It had some nice humor, but that was kinda it.
You played through the milkman conspiracy level and still thought 'that was kinda it'?
Yep. I thought the level was a bit boring. Kinda funny, but as a game, boring and tedious. Never liked it much.
Why is ZP allowed and stuff like Dunkey's newer video on difficulty in games gets removed under rule 1.
Also Headlander was great imo.
I would like an answer for this as well. Just because Dunkey make funny videos doesn't mean that they don't give a good place for discussion.
Both ZP and dunkey videos are for humor, but both also bring good points.

It's the same thing with Jim Sterling's stuff. Whether a given Jimquisition is allowed to stay up or gets removed seems to be practically random.
Probably because ZP is actually reviewing games, its not just for humor purposes.
I mean, Dunkey's newest video was a straight up mini-essay on difficulty.
I actually have no idea who Dunkey is. I was referring to why ZP is allowed?
And you were in-turn implying that Dunkey's videos are just for humor purposes.
