I would jump ship to Spotify in a heartbeat if it let me store songs in the cloud a la Google Music. Until then, I'm stuck with Google Play.
Cloud music is free on Google I just use both but only pay for Spotify
Can't mix playlists though
This has been one of the main reasons I've been wanting to leave Spotify for so long...That and because the android app is SO DAMN TERRIBLE. Animations are non existent (Hell, I think even PowerAmp has better animations), and basic gestures like sliding up the now-playing bar does nothing. Also, one handed usage is atrocious (which wouldn't be an issue if it supported full screen gestures like every other media player in the play store).
I even went as far and paid Google Play Music family subscription (currently paying Spotify Family Plan) last month to see if we could make the jump. Nope. The web app, amazing playlist curation (Courtesy of Songza), and far more material design compliant android app with better gesture support were outstanding. However, actually playing music in the android app was painfully slow and clunky. Starting a playlist always yielded a 1-2 second delay, and switching songs a 0.5-1.5 second delay. I really don't get what causes this (maybe google play music encrypts downloaded music?) since Spotify suffers from no delays to play music at all.
Such a shame because I really, really wanted to leave spotify, but with a mobile app that fails at the very thing it was intended to do, I just can't tolerate it. And for those wondering, this was on a Nexus 6.
I turned my animations down to .5x speed and GPM became unusable. Even with normal animations, it feels so clunky. At this point, I think people have tricked themselves into thinking its a good app.
Odd, I found no lag while using GPM. Maybe it's the phone? I tested this on a Nexus 6, but it may be unoptimized enough to run like dogshit on anything that isn't a flagship/a nexus device.
N6 and 5x for me.
Yeah, GPM's animations constantly stutter. It got so bad I had to uninstall it. Unfortunately, the free cloud based music service is unparalleled.
I fucking hate the play music app
Spotify is far worse for me :/ it looks better at first glance, but it's lacking gesture support makes me want to throw my phone out the window.
don't leave it, just pay for Google music and for the gaming Playlists use Spotify, common, nobody is forcing you to pay for Spotify, but they have some good stuff, personally, I like the radio
they do let you atleaset sync your local music between devices though.
Same reason I had to switch. I reached the limit on spotify and was so bummed
Awesome!. The Last of Us sountrack is amazing.
Second this. If you haven't heard the last of is soundtrack give it a shot
Also play the game.
"Game"
Cool, I've been listening to game OSTs for a little while now.
Recommend "The Sims", "The Sims 4" and "SimCity" (all versions).
Is it music composed for the game or are you listening to Simlish covers? XD
The former. The covers aren't very good.
Ah, okie. See, the first thing I think of when I hear "Sims" and "Music" is their weird covers of actual songs.
No no. But the original soundtracks...
They're freaking great!!
It seems they finally added the Journey soundtrack??
Oh fuck yes.
Hope the Tony Hawk Pro Skater game soundtracks will be added!
there's no community made playlists of these games?

I haven't found complete playlists per game. Most playlists consist of the makers favorite tracks from a few of those games combined. And indeed also covers and live versions if they couldn't find the real version
Pretty cool initiative, but it's missing a bunch of gaming OSTs. Like all of Falcom's (Ys, Trails in the Sky) catalogue, Nobuo Uematsu's (Final Fantasy) Distant World albums, smaller Japanese indie games like Yume Nikki, and more.
Hell, even Play music has Nobuo. I was surprised.
The owners need to add it to spotify first.
Those links I posted are for albums already available on Spotify.
The final fantasy ones aren't the actual soundtracks. That's what I miss, complete ost's.
Where can i find these Gaming Playlists on the desktop Spotify app? I know that if I choose "Play on Spotify" on the website it plays the music on the desktop app, but it would be better if I could access that part in the bloody app.
Browse -> Genres & Moods -> Gaming
Pick a playlist of your choice.
Thanks a lot!!!

Man I just want the Rocket League soundtrack. I don't know who decided to put that great music in the title screen and then not include it in matches.
Edit: OK I reinstalled Spotify, checked their gaming category and the second one listed was a playlist based on exactly that.
You mean this? https://open.spotify.com/album/6XL0i4TCp2D1zDT4EbCCOO
Yes and no. I did find that album, but I feel like there's several tracks missing from it. For example the track listed on there Seeing What's next isn't the same mix you typically hear; there's a couple others I've heard on there that I can't find in the album.
Edit: I just realized there is a second album with the tracks I couldn't find.
NieR would be cool, one of the best OSTs out there in my opinion
or drakengard.
i dont need spotify for guile theme 24 hours.
Finally someone understands what quality music is.
Time to check to see if wipeout (the good wipeout, not the shitty gameshow) is on there.
I cannot recommend the Halo 3 OST enough. As well as the Battlefield 1942 OST.
I would pay for Spotify only if it allowed me to play YouTube in the background.. that's mainly the only reason why I pay for GPM.
Awesome I just found LOTR battle for middle earth 2 and found the dwarven pride song. Great nostalgia
Did they just add the Scott Pilgrim vs The World (game) and Axiom Vergr?! Holy shit this is amazing. Picked a few OSTs too that I never bothered to listen like Witcher 3. Now I just need Final Fantasy and Zelda OSTs and I'm set.
Seems like gaming can be a music genre as much as any other! Take that, naysayer friend that said "music without lyrics isn't real music".
I'm sorry, but your friend is a dumbass if they think instrumental music isn't "real" music.
No offense taken :) he's pretty wrong about that, no doubt.
So strange, I usually listen to these songs already.

What does that even mean?
Edit just in case you were wondering he said "good for the kiddies"
I dunno. Some bait, I guess.
Not very good one at that, though.
They have a Retrowave/Outrun playlist holy shit.
Not sure what this genre is but I'm guessing Kavinsky sounding genre?
Yep! r/outrun for anyone who wants to dive into the rabbit hole
A bit yeah. I'd recommend checking out Gunship or Carpenter Brüt to anyone wanting to check out the genre, soo good.
Thanks for the heads up! Have an upvote.

Yeah, and it's fucking good too. All tracks I've never heard yet
