Cross-Post from LadiesofScience: Need suggestions for Women of Color and/or Women LGBT Scientists and Inventors for an awareness project! Your input is highly appreciated.
Hello all! I've posted this originally to r/LadiesofScience, but the more suggestions there are for this project, the merrier.
I work for a children's science center within the United States and am working on a long-term project to promote more widespread knowledge of women within STEM fields. Since we are geared towards children here at our science center, I'd like to use this project to inspire and empower girls who come into our center to become interested in STEM career fields.
I've collected examples of Caucasian-American women who have made notable contributions to the sciences within my research so far, and have also found African-American women (Mae Jemison, Dr. Shirley Jackson, Dr. Patricia Bath) along with Madam Chien-Shiung Wu to include within the project presently.
Representing LGBT Women of Science and Inventors, I currently have Lynn Conway and Sally K. Ride.
I'd love to open my project up to suggestions from this community to include more Women of Color and/or Women of the LGBT community. Although the majority of individuals I have collected are currently of United States nationality, feel free to suggest anyone regardless of national background!
As an important side note, I will say that it has been notably difficult to find information on Indian women scientists and inventors, so these suggestions are also highly appreciated.
I look forward to all of your recommendations! Thank you all for your time.
