Rise of Minodom Part 3 - Millstone for the Night

Long

Previously on 'Rise of Minodom'

This time on Rise of Minodom.

After their run in with the awakened tree, our party doesn't have any other major encounters on the way to Millstone.

Do roll a event though.

They are camped about a day from Millstone on this particular night, Chireep is awake on watch, Cleo curled up in her lap sleeping.

Cleo snores very loudly and noticeably moves when she does.

'Dawwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!' -Chireep IC and OOC

Talas is across the campfire from her, sleeping in his bag against the side of a boulder that slightly curves out above him. Chose that spot as cover in case it rained.

Chireep is sitting there looking up at the night sky, enjoying the stars. She's lived in the Bright Woods for so long that she can't ever remember having seen the sky through the canopy of the woods.

As she is observing, fate decides to throw her a bone and on her first real night out of the Bright Woods, three shooting stars go by.

Side Note - I actually rolled to double check if that would happen, didn't just do it. The dice smile on Chireep.

Chireep was enthralled by it, has no idea what it was but she thought it was beautiful. Gains newfound respect for the unknown.

Make it to Millstone in fairly short order after that.

Chireep asks Talas if he saw the lights from last night, describing them as 'Firing across the night'.

Talas tells her those were shooting stars based on her description.

'Is that what they're called? I didn't know stars could shoot.' -Chireep

Short role-playing over her enthusiasm as they walk into town.

Set the stage for the town square for the tiny settlement of Millstone, its modest area.

The Blacksmith, a town hall, the inn, and the town square between them. Several miles around it in every direction is just farmland.

Chireep doesn't know what an Inn is.

Talas explains again. Ends on 'assuming of course, that you have money.' after explaining the purpose of an Inn.

'Based on what you said earlier, I assume we don't have money' -Chireep

Talas responds in the affirmative.

'Chireep looks for where the most people are.' - Chireep OOC

Chireep calls Cleo over, and they both head into the Inn.

Talas strikes up conversation with the gentlemen leaning on the doorframe outside the Inn before following.

Talas inquires into any important going-ons.

Guy looks Talas up and down, speaks very coherently unlike Talas was expecting.

'Not much around here. However... you seem like a fairly competent fellow, moreso than most. I imagine the meaning behind the question implies the perspective of an adventurer. The only thing of importance to public gossip is the upcoming political meet in Hollo'Dar, many different leaders and figureheads will be present. It's actually quite impressive the crowd the dwarves have called. The biggest peace meeting in.... forever.' -The commoner then closes his eyes again to lean against the door frame, satisfied that his answer will get the adventurer to leave him alone sooner rather than later.

Talas then follows Chireep into the Inn.

7 people in the lobby, 6 patrons and the barmaid.

Chireep chirps to Cleo, and the raptor walks up to her.

Chireep gains everyones attention, since she isn't exactly subtle.

All the guys, especially the drunk ones, smile because 'pretty elf', and then see the raptor and a few of them get a little edgy.

'Uhm... I'm uh.... you look new so I'm going to assume you don't know this, but we usually don't allow animals in here. Especially....' -The young barmaid looks at the raptor as she speaks 'Exotic ones.'

Cleo tilts her head at the barmaid.

Chireep is mentally so far into her plan already that there's no going back.

'PEOPLE OF THE INN!' -Chireep starts.

'Ohhhh God' -Talas OOC

Have Chireep roll persuasion to see effectiveness of her greeting, since she asks if it worked.

  1. Sonova-

'You yell very enthusiastically, and all the patrons stop looking at your raptor and look specifically at your face. You have their attention.' -Me

Word for word quote of what she said.

'MY FRIEND, THE BARD AND I, HAVE NO MONEY, AND WE NEED A PLACE FOR THE NIGHT. SO. AS IS YOUR CUSTOM, I BELIEVE THAT WE NEED TO GIVE YOU MONEY. SO AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE AN ISSUE HERE. I WILL ENTERTAIN YOU WITH A SHOW, WITH ME AND MY DEAR COMPANION CLEO-' Cleo jumps and sort of purrs as her name is said, as best a raptor can. '-AND WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO ENTERTAIN YOU FOR SOME CURRENCY. HOW ABOUT IT?'

'Alright. Roll persuasion again for me.' -Me

Talas covers his eyes from embarrassment.

Rolls 19. Better than the original roll.

'All the drunken people smile, and are immediately ready to take you up on your offer. The one sober patron is kinda hesitant, but willing to see where it goes. The barmaid looks around, notices her patrons are happy and decides she can probably get more money out of this, thus agreeing to let you and the raptor stay to attempt to entertain them.' -Me

'So do I go again?' -Chireep OOC

'Unless Talas wants to interject with anything...?' -Me

'......no.......' -Talas

Chireep, with Cleo, performs an old group dance that she remembers from one of her few memories of her past.

'Aight, not persuasion this time, performance check. At disadvantage.' -Me

Only passes roll because majority of the crowd is drunk, easily impressed.

'You and Cleo begin to perform the old dance, and you are getting fairly into it. You're not entirely sure the dance is right, you're just doing things that feel natural or make sense with the song so it's sort of dancing... and then the other half of the time flailing. The drunken people are getting a great kick out of it, because again it's a pretty elf doing some dance they don't know. Who knows what it means.'

Talas jumped in to assist with some music midway through, making it up as he went along. This is part of why Chireep is thrown off. She knows there was music with the dance, but she doesn't know how he remembers what song goes with it. She is trusting him however to know the tune.

The non-drunken patrons, whom have grown in number as the song continues, are actually more entertained by Cleo as he went over to them and is pecking at their shoes with the occasional chirp.

They also are being nice to Cleo hoping she won't kill them.

'You don't get kicked out, but the only people genuinely impressed are the drunkards, who pass out after hours of your entertainment.' -Me

'Do they throw any gold my way...?' -Chireep OOC

'Because of their disposition, none of them are coherent enough to realize they can tip you.' -Me

'The barmaid/innkeeper does call you over to the bar when you stop though.' -Me

Our party of three head over to the barmaid.

She's not exactly sure what that display was, chuckling to herself, but they did get her customers to buy more beer. Thus she agrees to let them stay in a room for the night.

Insert Long Rest Here.

The next morning they go downstairs and find only the barmaid awake, cleaning things.

Talas goes to help her, Chireep walks right up 'HELLO MA'AM'

She laughs and small talks for a bit, mostly unimportant stuff.

Chireep is immensely impressed by the bed in this tiny towns Inn, a massive improvement from the woods she called it.

Barmaid is unsure whether or not Chireep is serious or not, 'Well... a bed is meant to be slept in. I don't know what you would use in the woods...'

'Oh we use LOADS of things! We use variations of leaves, and sometimes you can scrape bark off, if you have a dagger which I have, but you have to be careful which leaves you use because of the poisonous varieties and its very unpleasant when it gets on your back or lower regions if you get my meaning.' -Chireep actually said this on the spot. Intentionally overly open about it and making it a run-on sentence.

Talas leans to the barmaid as Chireep continues rambling and whispers, 'I think shes been in the Bright Woods for... maybe just a few weeks too long.'

'Ooooohohhhhh the Bright Woods! That does explain it.' -Barmaid whispers back to Talas

Barmaid looks back to Chireep and keeps smiling.

'-And finally the pine needles are perfect for making nice soothing tea before bed.' -Chireep ends on that note.

'That's.... good to know! I might write that down somewhere.' -Barmaid

Tiny bit more unimportant roleplaying. Except of course to make me very proud of my players.

Conversation eventually loops back to the typical 'Anything you know you could potentially clue us in to?' question.

Same as before, Millstone is tiny and uneventful, so all they really know is BIG BIG stuff that's happening. Like everyone knows this already kinda news.

Cough Hollo'Dar Political Meet Cough

Summarize conversation with the fact that the most prominent feature of Millstone is that it's moderately close to everything that is actually of interest.

'Alright. Chireep heads out because she's bored with the place.' -Chireep OOC

Talas sees Chireep leaving and rushes his typical polite goodbyes to follow her.

Brief shenanigans ensue at the blacksmiths across the square.

TL;DR version - Cleo tore some leather work in the main shop, Chireep apologized by carving a note into the front door before Talas could stop her.

Then they left on their journey, heading south along the road to Hollo'Dar.

Before the blacksmith got back.
