In Brief, a Client Went With Another Designer
I've been working with a band to design a logo for them, it was to my demise that after I sent them a design and an invoice (oh I hope that is the proper way to handle these sort of transactions) that they decided they would go with another designer.
In our e-mail discussions we decided a price and I was given no actual deadline. I asked them to send me over their music, to be sure that the design I created matched their sound. After one of the member's of the band had finally sent me a music file I had the design created and sent over to them in two days.
This was on Friday. I got two emails from the band today... One saying "Let me talk to the band" another saying "We haven't heard from you in a couple of days so we went with another designer, Lets work together in the future."
I've only been designing professionally for about a year, I'm still getting acquainted with how the professional design world actually works, so I'm seeking some advice...
I'm not so much upset about the band hiring another designer (even though that totally sucks...) but more so the fact that they didn't tell me they were headed into a different direction until after I had put all of the effort into making the design that they told me they were looking for. It makes me feel like my time is completely disrespected... it's a huge bummer, especially when it is coming from fellow artists that I assume would understand the work that goes into creation.
Anyway, is there anything you recommend I do about this? Or should I just move on from it?
