TIFU by trying to help

So, this actually happened today.

The tap on the bath in my Mum's house has been dripping for a couple of weeks but has been getting worse over the past couple of days. My brother had went for a shower and told us the water was not draining, my mum told him that it was normal, it's taking longer because of the tap.

Later on I go to use the toilet and the water in the bath had risen to about an inch below the overflow thing. I panicked thinking that if the bath wasn't draining, that the overflow wouldn't work, so I ran downstairs to try and turn the water off, it reduced the dripping but not by much. I grabbed a bucket from outside and started pouring it into the sink/toilet.

I managed to clear majority of the water, so I decided to unscrew the drain plate a little and the water that was left drained away, I was happy to announce that I had fixed the problem, only to hear my brother shouting from his room... I ran downstairs and there was water streaming down his walls, fucking up his posters and running into his cupboards! Me, my mum and my brother grabbed a bunch of towels and tried to catch as much of it as possible but thankfully it stopped.

So, I think I have caused a small fortune on repair bills, but will find out tomorrow when we finally phone the damn plumber!
