What's the general consensus about doggy etiquette on the grass in between the street and sidewalk (not the grass in front of a house)?

This question pertains specifically to the East End in Long Beach but feel free to suggest what your town does. Long beach isn't necessarily doggy friendly as its one of the few communities with a no dogs on Boardwalk rule and only 1? Dog park in the neighborhood, not counting Nickerson/Lido. Some of the grass patches look nicely maintained and I don't want to shit on anyone's feelings by letting my dog shit on that grass even though I would definitely pick it up!Thanks!
