Logging ethnic food?
I've been using myfitnesspal to log calories and it's been going great, however I've been facing a few problems when it comes to coming home. 85% of my family's diet is made up of rice, curries, chutnies, etc. When I'm living on my own I do fine, but every weekend/family party things get screwed up because we live off of big portions and I can't really do calorie counts for the majority of the food.
Worse is when my mom orders from restaurants because she doesn't have time to cook, because at least if a family member is cooking it I can ask what's in it. My family mostly cooks to taste, no family recipes or anything. I can recreate some dishes, but there's no way of telling if my dad dropped a big of garlic in there or if my mom added more or less water, etc. etc.
This often means I've been stuck either buying food (not really an options unless it's only my parents I'm eating with, as my aunts/uncles would probably not appreciate me bringing outside food to family parties) or eating the smallest (and not as filling and also making my relatives worry that this dieting is taking over my health) portions possible.
Anybody have any tips? It's pretty much whatever can be found in Sri Lankan/South Indian restaurants, for context.
