Can activated abilities tribal be a thing?

Here's my throw-together start of a deck for activated tribal. I'm helming Maelstrom Wanderer for haste and basic value. I figure casting him a couple times is probably pretty easy when you have a bunch of mana producing creatures and can't hurt.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!
