Something was in my bathroom
My junior year of college I studied abroad in London. We lived in the top floor (probably was the attic originally) of a 18th century home that had been converted into flats.
Our flat was a studio, and my roommate and I thought there was a ghost stationed in the bathroom. Things would fly off shelves and we had general uneasy feelings. The other students joked about it because they thought we were crazy or attention-seeking girls.
Two events convinced us something weird was definitely happening.
One morning, I was taking a shower before classes. I finished washing and just stood there enjoying the warm water. Then I felt something tap me on the shoulder. Nothing that I could see was in the bathroom with me. I stood there for a minute, terrified.
Then the water shut off on it's own. I ran out of there as fast as I could. Turns out the water breaker (is that what it's called?) had been shut off.
My roommate was pretty scared about the possibility of a ghost living with us, so I decided not to tell her what happened.
After about a week I couldn't stand it anymore, and I told her everything. Her eyes got wide and said the same thing happened to her the same morning it happened to me. She didn't tell me for the same reason I didn't tell her. She knew I was already so scared of it.
Few weeks later, I was in the stairwell talking to my mother about it on the phone. I sat on the steps facing a wall, and on the other side of the wall was my bathroom. I've always been terrified of seeing a real ghost and told my mom, "If this thing shows itself, I swear I'm moving out of this place."
The stairwell goes completely black. It's just for a few seconds, but it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I've read since then that when ghosts try to show themselves, they drain the energy from sources like lights.
My mom suggested my roommate and I go to the bathroom and say, "we'll only be here for a few more months, and then we're going home. We'd really like it if we could all live in this space harmoniously while we're visiting." So we tried it.
Everything stopped for the rest of our time in the flat. Nothing else was knocked off shelves, the lights and shower worked normally, and nothing tapped our shoulders again.
And in case you're wondering - yes, it's incredibly weird worrying about a ghost watching you while using the toilet.
