Just moved and having trouble finding work.

Hi r/jobs!

I just moved to Charleston, SC with my boyfriend because of his military orders. This is the first time I have moved with him (I met him when he had just moved to my town.)

I am having trouble finding a job down here. I've heard it is competitive here but I see a lot of jobs on indeed and craigslist. I am afraid that experience is not desirable for the jobs I am applying for. I would like a receptionist/front desk/customer service type job and I see a lot of them advertised on indeed. Indeed also lets you know when someone has looked at your resume and I can see that only one place has done so.

My latest work history consists of jobs in retail and food service. I have worked in an office before but only for a few months (the job was not a good fit for various reasons but mostly my co workers made me feel uncomfortable.) I also have experience working as a preschool teacher and a pet care giver/dog walker. I have a bachelors degree too.

I guess I would like to know how to make myself sound desirable to at least be interviewed. Has anyone been successful applying for a job through indeed? Do you follow up with a phone call or visit?
