How are things in Korea?

I'm currently DEP for Fire Protection. I leave for BMT in either Oct. or Nov. and am trying to plan ahead. My wife and I have always wanted to travel and being 3E7X1, I can pretty much go anywhere(because where ISN'T fire protection a need? lol). So that got me thinking, why not go to Korea for a year, so that we can choose our next base(someone told me that's how it works? Spend a year in Korea and I pretty much get to choose my next base?).

Anyways, one thing my wife and I were discussing is that we wouldn't mind going this route, but I'm kinda curious about tensions, etc. in Korea(assuming they have a FP position open there) with all things considered. Anyone there? Or know how things are there? Also, to double check, my wife can be stationed there with me, yes?
