C&C on a Campaign list
My brother is trying to get a few people we know to join a simple and friendly Campaign style game starting at 2,000 points and hopefully build up from there, with no named characters, overly cheesy lists, and no artillery (one person is of course fighting this rule saying it's their "Legions theme to bring at least 3 rapiers"<--Iron Hands). It was originally going to be 1,000 points but their were complaints that escalation style at that low was "dumb"...
One of the main rules we're going for is to disallow Praetors and nominate a Centurion or one of the consul types as you main character, give 'em a name, they must be included in every list, etc. Personally I'm really excited to play with my custom Primus Medicae model I made recently (I know I play Word Bearers who are all about Chaplains but I want my character to be this guy, and I'm still taking a Chaplain as my required secondary HQ).
I know I will be facing off against at least one (probably two) person(s) in our group who doesn't really know how to play very friendly, or not 'Win At All Costs' strong lists. So I have to try and make a list that can be fun for the others and still maybe do well against him/them.
Word Bearers - 2,000 - Age of Darkness - NO Rite of War
HQ's - 310 points
-
Legion Centurion (175): Primus Medicae, Artificer Armour, Refractor Field, Burning Lore, Plasma Pistol, Power Weapon (Axe)
-
Legion Centurion (135): Chaplain, Artificer Armour, Refractor Field, Burning Lore, Power Weapon (Maul)
TROOPS - 350 points
-
10x Legion Assault Squad (205): Combat Shields (all)
-
10x Legion Tactical Squad (145): Taking the additional CCW instead of exchanging their bolters (all)
ELITES - 375 points
- 10x Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren (375): character in squad has Artificer and a Power Fist
HEAVY SUPPORT - 960 points
-
10x Legion Heavy Support Squad (335): entire squad equipped with Volkite Culverins
-
Legion Sicaran Battle Tank (210): Dozer Blade, and sponson Lascannons
-
Leviathan Siege Dreadnought (420): Seige Drill, Storm Cannon, Armoured Ceramite, Phosphex Discharger, dedicated transport: Dreadnought Drop Pod.
•The scariest single thing on this list by far is the Leviathan but I need something to crack the many vehicles I expect to see.
• Originally, the Gal Vorbak were in a Spartan with the HQ's but after talking to my brother we agreed it was too strong of a combination, so now the big group will walk the field.
• My Psychic powers could be a huge benefit or they could fall short, but I love making that gamble. Regardless, I will be running head-first into the closest melee surrounded by Gal Vorbak.
• I know Heavy Support using Volkite Culverins isn't really done much but I like throwing a lot of dice and allowing people to make their armor saves (you know, playing the game), it's better than just taking something strong as saying "pick up those models, chump."
Thanks for taking the time to read, and please feel free to leave C&C.
