Buying my first lot of shares/investments (AUS)

Hey there. I was gifted a small amount ($1500) for my birthday and thought that I should invest it rather than waste it. I realise it is only a small amount but I guess you have to start somewhere. I am just wondering where to even begin. At the moment the money is in my trading account but just in a high interest savings account. Not even sure if this is worth it really.

What I want to know is what shares/investments could/should I look at? I am not looking to use the money any time soon or won't even need to access it so long term investments are fine to. Any help is appreciated!
