Some tips before bloodwork
Just got home from my hrt appointment - I should be starting next week after my blood results come back! Super excited!
One thing I realized is there's always questions or stories about therapists and even srs, but nobody brings up the hrt appointment and getting your blood drawn. I never had mine taken, so it hit me - hard. Doesn't help I'm super skinny. So, if you're going to have your blood taken or think you're going to, here are a few tips:
- Water (& liquids). A no-brainer, as you should be drinking so much in a day already, but having a little extra beforehand is not going to hurt. Bring along a water bottle, and drink plenty afterwards. If you forgot, ask them for a cup.
- Food. Eat. Brink a snack along, like some crackers, for after. Trust me.
- If you are not good with needles, you don't have to look. Relax. I'm awful with sharp things poking me, so I closed my eyes and faced the other wall.
- You don't have to sit, especially if you think you might pass out. Lying down would be better, as it reduces the wooziness - and, if you do go out, you won't be sitting awkwardly.
- Most importantly - breathe, or even talk afterwards. If you need to pass out, do it. Don't let yourself feel sick.
