Good introduction to east-asian languages?

Hiya, I dabble in language learning and linguistics, but have only really focused on indo-european languages. I'd like to expand my horizons a bit by learning some about east-asian languages. Things I'm interested in learning:

  • Language families and their histories, like how indo-european languages can be classified into romance, Germanic, Hellenic, slavic, etc.

  • General morpholgy / syntax

  • Recognizing different languages by ear, I feel pretty awful whenever I hear some asian student at my Uni conversing, and all I can tell is that they're speaking some sort of far-east language.

Is there anywhere I can find a good introduction to this stuff? Am I being too ambitious?

Thanks!
