Help finding the right neighborhood

Hi. Washingtingtonian here relocating to Portland for business. I've spent the last few years in the hipster neighborhood of Silver Lake, Los Angeles. What can I say, it was my favorite neighborhood in LA. It fit the Seattle in me.

I'm not familiar at all with Portland, but I'm really looking for a neighborhood with the same ease and vibe as I've come accustomed to. I want to walk to the farmers' market, and the grocery store. I want to see nature and water if possible.

I'm planning a trip down in a couple weeks to explore and find my niche, but I'm hoping for some suggestions before I get down there. Thanks.
