TIFU by deleting my mom's most precious souvenirs

Please, bare with any grammatical/syntax error in my post, for English is not my native language.

Today, I bought a brand new laptop. My previous one was getting old, noisy and slow. Time to change. Usually, I would wait until my device break down to buy a new one. This time, I tought it would be safer to acquire a new laptop before I lost all my files.

So today, I received it. After the usual charging time, I'm getting to work and start transfering my files from my previous laptop to the new one. I don't have any external hard drive so I'm using two 8gb usb keys my mother lend me. The keys where already filled with pictures (my mother's most precious stuff). Of course, I take the files, copy them on my previous computer, delete the pictures from the keys and start filling them with my own files.

It took nearly 3 hours to get all the files from a laptop to an other. I had to empty and refill each key about five or six times. Satisfied with myself, I proceed to copy the pictures from my old computer into the keys...

Wait... Where are all the old pictures?

...

I can't find the pictures from 2007, the oldest and most precious one...

I search in every folder, in every part of the computer... I can't find them. I start freakng out, WHERE THE FUCK ARE THESE PICTURES?

Everything become clearer at once : I didn't copy the pictures from the second key before I deleted them. "Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck ! Google, how can I recover these images that my mother loves more than his own children?" I start installing a shitload of programs to search in the deleted files of my usb key. ...

"Thanks lord, I found them, they're right here, I just have to click on the "recover" button !"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, no.

I can't open them. I found them, get them out of the usb key but can't open them. Google tells me that I probably emptied and filled too much the key. Apparently, I deleted the temporary files that were my only chance to recover the pictures in their original state.

Now, I'm stuck with unopenable pictures and I can't repair them.

I don't know if my mother will be furious, depressed or completely disappointed. I only know that it's my fault.

I will update tomorrow if I'm still alive.

TL;DR: I accidentaly but irredeemably deleted the precious pictures my mother kept in a usb key.

UPDATE : Okay, this morning, I was face with a cruel dilemma. Do I tell my mother what I did to alleviate my mind or do I hide everything and hope she doesn't find out? I'm not the risky type so I told her. It went like this (btw I'm 21) :

Me: "Eeerm... Mom? Eeerm... I think... I think I fucked up yesterday..."

Her: "What? Did you set up your new computer in the wrong language ? Haha"

Me: "Well, no... I may have deleted your old pictures... Those that were taken during my Confirmation (an important catholic sacrament that a majority of kids do in my country) and during the 2007 holidays."

Her: "... Well, it doesn't matter. Shit happens..." (totally not the reaction I expected)

But the best is coming guys : she may have a FUCKING BACK-UP. My "Why-does-my-computer-is-so-slow" Mom may have a fucking back-up ! I'll search after workday, I hope I can find them !

If I manage to get the pictures, I'll directly put them in a safe place !

UPDATE 2 : I didn't find them. My mom is actually a bit sad.

I'll keep the corrupted files in a folder. Maybe a future technology will be able to repair them. It could be a good birthday present for my mother.

It will also remind me to always have a back-up
