Issue with 2.1 Setup, Powered Dayton 1200

So I just got my Dayton sub 1200 which I plan to hook up with the pb42x micca bookshelf speakers. I've tried to hook them up without a receiver by having a setup like so: source -> aux -> rca -> sub Line In -> sub speaker wire High Level Output -> rca -> pb42x rca input.

I had some rca to speaker wire cables ordered that never came in the mail, so I improvised. I took an old rca red and white cable, cut off one end and separated the wires inside. I connected the outside wire to - and inside to + for both of the L/R high level outputs of the sub. I am getting no sound from the micca speakers. Bass is playing just fine from the sub though. I checked the rca input of the micca with my rca -> aux and they played just fine. They are on, powered up, etc.

Is the issue with my arrangement or the cabling or both? Anything else I didn't take into account? Thanks
