Tarp and hammock camping?

I have a fairly ultralight tent that I love but it takes up a lot of room in my pack. I think I might move towards a tarp and hammock setup. Those who have used the setup- what were your experiences with it? Is the move worth it? How does the weight and pack volume fare?
