I'm terrible at KoF

Hiya. Ive picked up KoF 14 recently and I realized how terrible at fighters. I can barely hit combos and if I do it come from pretty careless button mashing. I can do basic moves and maybe basic combos but other than that I will easily lose to anyone with any knowledge of KoF or fighters in general. I want to get better at fighters but my button input is sloppy or to slow to chain into other moves. Can anyone give any tips on how to improve my game? (You may have seen my post on r/games)
