High school senior (male). Never had girlfriend. I like a girl a lot and I think she likes me, but her dad won't let her date. Should I abandon ship?

Over the summer we did have lunch and it was great. (She had an hour off from band camp so her dad didn't know.) we text a lot, but don't have any classes together. I have no experience with any of this obviously. Any help is appreciated.
