I just can't understand Blizzard...

News & Discussion

Hey everyone, I don't know where should I start...

basically, I'm just a normal gamer that happened to live in Syria.

I liked Overwatch since the first announcement, sadly I couldn't get into the beta and was very sad to know the game wasn't going to be free to play as everyone expected because I knew I probably won't be able to buy it, but I actually managed to buy it a week after release, it was the first game I ever got on release, started playing since then and I was having a very good time because I was really in need of something new, up until mid July when problems started happening, I couldn't connect to friends in battle.net, the client said it was offline but was still able to download updates and play the game, had to use VPN sometimes to make the download start, then it started getting worse, the game randomly couldn't connect to the server, website sometimes didn't open, until about 14 days ago where I couldn't access eu.battle.net , while still being able to access us.battle.net and the main battle.net website, and I couldn't play the game, I later discovered that I can connect to Americas region through the client and play, but it's a really bad idea because of ping.

I contacted Blizzard many times through twitter and they kept saying it's my ISP, firewall, connection and all that stuff, then I couldn't access the main battle.net website anymore

desperately knowing what's the case, I opened a support ticket, and got this reply...

yep, it's what I expected, they banned my country, and before someone says they're legally forced to etc... they're not, they're only forced not to accept any payment from some countries, they're not forced to block a game from being played or block their website.

I simply can't use VPN to play, I already get 150-300ms ping to EU servers without it, it's not worth the pain.

and before someone compares it to what Psyonix did with Rocket League, it's not the same, Psyonix clearly stated on the Steam Store page that the game will not be playable in Syria since release, on top of that, Psyonix does not operate Rocket League servers themselves, their servers are hosted by google (as I heard, not sure) so they can't do anything about it.

but really, I have one question to Blizzard, why did you let me spend a 1 and a half month salary to buy your game, only to ban me months later for no reason without any previous warnings?

it was fun while it lasted, Overwatch was the first Blizzard game I ever played, and it's certainly the last.

I feel happy that I've been a part of this community, even for this short time, I've met wonderful people that I never thought I'd meet in a Blizzard game community, you guys are amazing.

good bye all

EDIT : apparently they realized their mistake after checking my ticket, now I can't access us.battle.net nor connect to Americas region as well
