DNS Resolver or Forwarder

What is the best these days with 2.3.2? I remember back in 2.1 DNS forwarder was the standard default, but now 2.3.X has moved to unbound and using the DNS resolver. What is the best DNS setup? Resolver and Forwarder and is there anything I need to change besides the defaults settings with DNS?
