How do you New York keyboardists/drummers transport your gear to gigs?

I'm a keyboardist seriously considering moving to the city and I wanted to hear how some of you guys transport your gear. Do a lot of venues have keyboards/pianos/amplification for you? Are you the most hated person on the subway? Did you have to downsize your gear considerably? Am I insane for thinking of moving to the city as a musician? All questions that need answering. Thanks!
