I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
I have noticed that there are some threads and comments among here that defended Ruruka's action/NG code, only to see themselves downvote.
The reason these commenters defend Ruruka: she just want to live.
The reason for the downvote: Everyone believe she should sacrifice herself.
The problem that I see is that, regardless of culture -- Eastern Culture, Greco-Roman Culture, and of course, Christian culture -- people are suppose to at least pay lip service to the concept of "sacrifice", if not outright do it.
It was so bad that there are only two philosophy that I know of that promote selfishness: one is Libertarianism by Ayn Rand, with the famous quote of: "I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”
A similar saying is from an Ancient Chinese philosoper YangZhu: 人人不損一毫,人人不利天下,天下治矣.
Both of which are considered as selfish and a Philosophy of Evil (You really don't see much praise for people who like Atlas Shrugged, except maybe for Trump.). In fact, YangZhu's philosophy require searching for many Chinese classic text, simply because many of his books were burned.
So for those that decided to defend Ruruka, that's fine -- but you must also answer why a self-sacrifice is not an option or wrong.
