Dragons Den [UK] (spoilers) S14 E06

MagiLED

  • £50k 15% => £333k
  • Easier LED lighting
  • These lights are annoying to deal with, I have tons of them
  • Nick making a rather silly point about the colours of them. Seems very easier to refine that.
  • Lots of fairly boring chat, everyone's out

Kokoso

  • £50k 10% => £500k
  • More coconut oil! This time for kids. Last weeks chap better have his eye on it.
  • Stocked in Boots! Yay! In 200 stores going up to 400
  • 9,000 units sold last 12mo, £20k (£2.22 a unit) revenue
  • Boots have 800 shops it can put it in. So that would be £80k revenue/year.
  • Valuation doesn't seem very fair to the Dragons to me.
  • Conflict of interest from Deborah: invests in a toiletry range
  • Conflict of interest from Sarah: invests in a raw organic coconut oil business (presumably our chap from last week)
  • Conflict of interest from Nick: same as Sarah
  • Conflict of interest from Peter: owns 30% in some baby company
  • So just Touker left. Offers 30%. Seems foolish to reject it, they're probably not making a profit yet.
  • Touker offers 5% back when he gets repaid. Feel like he should have just asked for 40% at this point, no way they were saying no! Anyway, they do accept. Probably a bad investment, but whatever.

Baby friendly balloons

  • Fabric cover for balloons. £50k 20% => £250k
  • Nick makes a fart noise with it and that's about the highlight

Plinth Tablet Stand

  • £50k 20% => £250k
  • Foldaway stand for your iPad
  • Sold 8,000, 1,000 in the last month. £14.95 RRP, won't say cost of goods on TV
  • Willing to say the margin: £4. IT'S THE SAME FUCKING THING.
  • Peter deduces the cost. Brill.
  • Everyone's out

PitPat

  • £150k 7.5% => £2m
  • Activity monitor for dogs, fitbit for dogs
  • Stores data on the device for up to 10 days, required a manual sync to a phone
  • Sold 1,500 units
  • Having trouble justifying the valuation
  • It's hard to value these hit or miss businesses with no history. It certainly seems like a good idea to me, no idea the size of the market or what they could even capture.
  • Nick offers £75k for 10% (£750k)
  • Deborah is a fan of big data apparently. Matches Nicks offer.
  • Even at £750k it seems like a pretty generous risk premium from the Dragons.
  • Entrepreneur has a hard cap of 12.5% (£1.2m)
  • Wow, he sticks to it too. Savage.

Nice to see something original and exciting in the Den anyway. Hopefully back to the comforts of chutneys and clothes next week.
