My girlfriend (21) and I (21) have sex 2 times a month at most, should I move on or try to fix the problem?
I've been dating my girlfriend for almost 10 months now and the lack of sex is starting to get to me. It's been this way since the relationship began. When I first noticed, maybe 2 months in, I wanted to explore the root of the problem. I found out that she has Vaginismus, which is basically a condition that causes her to "clamp up" before or during sex. I worked very hard and provided loads of support to her to try to get past her Vaginismus. She told her obgyn, is trying to get comfortable with sex by using a vibrator, and is very open to me about what she is feeling. I've never stopped initiating sex and have never once forced her to do anything.
We've talked about the lack of sex probably once a month since we found out she has Vaginismus. After a while, I started to notice that she wouldn't clamp up whenever we did anything sexual. Although her Vaginismus started clearing away, the infrequency of sex remained constant. She intiated the conversation, for the first time yesterday, and said that she gets turned on by me all the time. She thinks about me and sees pictures or hears my voice and wants to "ravage me." However, when she gets close to actually executing those urges, she becomes scared and her body shuts down.
What boggles my mind is that she has never been raped or sexually assaulted. I brought this up and she told me that the mere thought of rape and sexual assault is what scares her. I know for a fact that she has full trust in me and wouldn't even dream of me doing that to her. She's never been in an abusive relationship, nor has her family been abusive. The worst that's happened to her is a high school lesbian experience that resulted in her clamping up. She also experienced cervical pain during her first sex and had to be hospitalized, but those experiences seem to contribute more towards the Vagnismus.
I like this girl so much and I get so close to falling in love all the time, but every time I'm not able to act on my urges, my feelings for her diminish. I know this has nothing to do with me and I've put so much effort into helping her feel comfortable and cared about. We do everything normal couples do. We make little gifts for each other, surprise each other, give massages for no reason... There's literally nothing wrong with our relationship except that we rarely have sex. Every single one of my friends and family members that's met her tells me how awesome my girlfriend is, and same vice versa.
The only remedy I know of that I haven't tried is to better turn her on and be more intimate. I improved myself tons during our first few months, but I guess there's always room for improvement. Anyways, how do I know whether we're sexually incompatible or if she's experiencing a temporary sexual debilitation?
tl;dr my girlfriend's body shuts down before sex, not sure if my help will change that or not, should I stay or should I go?
