When was the game the hardest?

Day one player here - even with the Mote Dungeon and U+ fights, I still think the game is easier than when it first started. I remember pre-RW really struggling through the FFV dungeons, using multiple mythril refreshes on that FF6 Red Dragon etc. And obviously float parade goes without saying. What period do you think was the hardest?
