Dating with no intention to commit?

I'm (24M) fairly new to dating. In fact, it's safe to say I've never really dated anyone: I've had one girlfriend in my whole life and we were together for five years.

I'm still not over her. The idea of committing to another relationship for years only to see it slowly implode again until nothing is left of it isn't very appealing to me. I kind of wanted to just go out and meet people, try to enjoy life as it came, but after nearly a year I realize I haven't met a single interesting, single girl. I guess I'm always gravitating around the same stagnating social circles so even if I go out with friends every evening, I don't really meet any new people.

I want to try dating, but I don't really know what to expect of it. I'd feel bad if I wasted everyone else's time by being willing to go on dates, but totally against the idea of committing to any form of long term relationship. How should I go about it?
