Why does my mom think someone will break into my trashy-looking house?

My house has dead grass, looks like it's falling apart, has dead potted plants in front of it, and overall looks like a haunted house especially at night. The houses around mine have beautiful lawns and are 2 stories and overall look way richer than my house. Yet for some reason my mom believes (or acts like) someone will break into my house when it looks like nothing valuable or worth stealing will be inside? One time during Christmas we put these sort of large ornaments on our garage along with the Christmas lights. One of them broke off because it was crap quality. But my mom was convinced that it was 'stolen' because it looks so 'nice.' Also, my mom is from a 3rd world country. As you can tell this all seems really stupid to me.
