Tire size question

My car's stock tire was a 195/60r15 on a 15x6 rim. Upgraded to the premium alloys which are a 16x7 with a 215/50r16. I can't find a great choice in that tire size and was wondering if it would be okay to move up to a 225/50r16. Car is a 2001 volvo v40 for reference.
