Associates! Describe your most recent "Work Shift from HELL"
In my 10 years with the company, today was truly a Monday from HELL. Holidays and Black Friday rush are usually insane to deal with and I have gotten used to them, but today, the fact our MRA team is understaffed killed us..
We have a total of 4 associates on a Monday to cover Claims (GM and Reclamation) and DSD. No one was scheduled on Sunday and the person that was supposed to come in did not come in. We had about 20 carts full of GM Claims, and several carts of rotting and dripping Frozen/Dairy/Meats reclamation. There was so much backed up that it blocked a main aisle of the backroom. Today was our Claims Pickup day and we barely had pallets made. We start up the recovery of the process with 2 people in Claims. However, I was pulled to DSD. The one and only DSD associate, who had trucks backed up outside and a line out the door since she is the only one receiving, had to leave since her son had a medical emergency. There were still vendors outside, we had FedEx and UPS pending outside. I had to jump in and reject some vendors since they came after our receiving hours. At least FedEx and UPS only brought a little bit for us to receive. And then came a truck with 16 pallets of MTR merchandise. Of course, we have to scan in every pallet separately. With our claims pickup coming and time running out, I had no choice but to receive the pallets and set them aside to scan in tomorrow, since it was closing in on my time to leave for the day. When I left, the remaining associates in claims were scrambling to process and palletize claims while the bins were virtually untouched since there were so many carts to kill. I cannot wait for them to add more associates in Claims and DSD. We were told we should be getting a ton more. We usually have 1 or 2 people in claims a day. Our bins haven't been touched in weeks since we never have enough people to work them. Our store has the most claims processed in the market. All other stores in our immediate area send about 6 to 7 pallets, but we will send 13 to 16 pallets every week. I NEED A DRINK.... /endrant
