A package post marked Pyongyang

Good Evening,

I am new to this sub!

I would like to share my communication with the DPRK notably the Propaganda department "Radio and Television"

As an avid listener of Shortwave Radio I am used to hearing the various broadcasts from the Voice of Korea. They broadcast in many languages including English. I thought it was time to write a hand written letter to request a QSL card (A QSL card is a card from a station, or operator confirming correct reception of listening to the said station)

After listening and writing down for a full hour of their English language service which includes their greetings to the Great Leader, followed by a segment of which the Great Leader sends his regards to countries around the world. It is then followed by a news segment with the usual derogatory and snide comments to the "South Korean Puppets" and "US Imperialists" during this segment they are always informing listeners of Juche, and it's values and their victories against the US with mentions of the USS Pueblo. It is then followed by revolutionary music or if they are feeling friendly with traditional music, but they are all dedicated to the Great Leader.

After compiling my letter to the DPRK, and posting it through my local post office. I asked the clerk the question "Will this get to North Korea?" She said it would! It filled me with some confidence that I would get some direct correspondence from North Korea.

3 months later, and I see a large brown envelope sitting on the bottom of my floor. I picked it, and seen a post mark saying "Pyongyang" after inspecting the package, it had been obviously opened which I am presuming was from the security services of my country.

I opened the package and found lots of information, including a letter written back thanking me for listening, and if I would care to answer some trivia questions on the history of the DPRK. I am not sure what the prize will be! It never said!

Also included was a copy of the infamous Pyongyang Times in English. I did observe the date mentioned a Juche year instead of the normal format of a year, and date. This was full of what was happening in the DPRK, and the "sworn enemies" I also got a book which was about the Juchue values, and how we around the world should more or less adapt to this ideal! I have not had the chance to read it but I will and report back here with the details of it.

I also got a magazine called "Korea today" which was more or less propaganda to entice someone to North Korea on a permanent basis instead of visiting. It really glorifies the country, and I have to be honest in writing this... it really sold the country to me. However, I do realise it's all propaganda! Finally, I received a badge in a colour of the purple in the DPRK flag showing the two Korea's united.

I thought I would share my story about the package I got from the DPRK.

Thanks for reading and comments are very welcome!
