Mold spores and mycotoxins in car
A while back, I lived in an apartment with mold, developed mold sickness, and my stuff cross-contaminated my car. So... now my immune system reacts to my car. There's no visible mold, but an ERMI test shows many types of environmental mold, some of them in dangerous levels (for me, since I can’t clear the toxins as easily). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where's there's lots of moisture and old buildings, so most cars older than a few years are a problem for me. I've tried calling mold remediation companies, but haven't found any that work with cars yet. I took the car to a detailing shop and he said that with my sensitivity level I should just sell the car, since even a very small number of spores are a problem. This problem is bigger than the mold-in-car issue, and I've been camping outside for the past 5 months as I couldn't find a home that worked for my health and that wasn't getting cross-contaminated. Things I've tried... desiccants, vacumming, opening all the windows on the freeway, vinegar, clove oil, Concrobium mold control sprayed on all the surfaces (and into the air vents), filters taped over the air vents, sitting in the sun, ozone treatment (twice). I developed chemical sensitivity from the mold exposure, so can’t use dampRid or anti-fungals, though I do use bamboo desiccants. Anyway, dehumidifiers don't actually get rid of the spores and mycotoxins.
I'm considering buying a newer car, though I'm concerned about the expense and the fact it might get cross-contaminated. Because someone may mention this, I finally found a great immunologist and am working on my internal environment also, but figuring out a car solution is important so that I can look for housing without cross-contamination, and it’s going to get cold soon. And yes, I do need a car, because I need to live someone further from city fumes but still be able to get into the city. Thanks for your thoughts! If you have any thoughts on the bigger problem of housing, etc., I’ll welcome that too!
