96 ford ranger . is it possible for a crank shaft to "move/slide" back and forth ?
Edit: sorry about the weird txt/font. Not sure why it looks that why after I submit .
96 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 automatic 4r44e transmission. 200k .
Ok so my trans is currently getting rebuilt locally at a shop . Ford issued a TSB on the valve body . The only symptoms of truck were O/D light flashing after driving for about 30 min and only then would it shift hard in 1st and 2nd only.
I gave the shop a fully loaded valve body I got online that addresses the TSB issues . Unfortunately something was wrong with it because it burned out 3rd gear , was throwing codes , and not shifting properly .
So the wonderful guys at Central Valve bodies just sent me another one no questions asked . And the shop put the old one back in for now because it's working fine and either I'll have them put new one in when it arrives or I will .
And if your wondering why I dnt just keep original one in if it works is because of the TSB ford issued . it will just cause problems down the road without having an updated one to address the TSB issues . But that's not my question , just a little back story .
Besides the VB I wanted installed , I wanted them to go through and do a full rebuild just so I know everything is good . a few months ago the flywheel broke and I replaced that .
But he brought to my attention that the torque converter was pushed in and hitting the pump . He wasn't sure why and didn't even sound to sure about this possibility but said I should get the crank shaft looked at cuz maybe it moving caused this ? I am a novice mechanic for a couple years now and didn't even think this is possible ?
So they replaced the torque converter and the flywheel . Has anyone ever heard of this ? I mean I drove the truck their just fine and I would think if the crank shaft had severe play I would of noticed . thanx guys .
