[Advice wanted] I've thought about going NC with NMom over the years but maintained VLC since I'm her only child and she's otherwise an elderly woman alone in the world. But then I got this email...

[Advice Request]

I got this gem of an email from nmom. She's trying to convince me to pay her rent and legal fees and this was her response when I told her no:

What about selling a Mazda the day after I spent $1500 to repair it for you to put it in top working condition? <-- Fun fact, I let her drive it for a year and she banged it up, thus the $1500 repair.

What about letting the dog chew my Hoover carpet cleaner rubber hose and never offering to pay for it? <-- This was a used carpet cleaner she gave us when she moved.

What about using a $500 oriental rug in the bathroom to use for the dog after his bath? <-- Another used item she gave away b/c it wouldn't fit in her one BR apartment. It is in our bathroom but we don't dry the dog with it. We walk on it. Because it's a carpet.

$1,200 crib for your use for whatever reasons when you already had cribs? <-- She bought this. Set it up in her apartment and it was never used. Never asked her to buy a crib (as if I'd leave my kid with her).

What about buying you an expensive early computer typewriter for college, breaking it by jamming it with a cartridge, and then asking for a computer? <--This was 20 years ago. My typewriter broke. At Christmas she got me a computer.

What about asking for longer skiis for play at the mountains. <-- Also 20 years ago. And I didn't ask for them. Another lavish gift.

What about all the antiques you have in your home, some of which are very valuable--the cherry table, for instance. <-- She uses my attic as storage for her antiques b/c she can't fit them in her apartment and won't pay for storage.

Were you given beautiful clothes over the years? <-- Yes. She buys me very expensive clothes two sizes too big in fabrics and patterns appropriate for a woman twice my age.

Have I failed to give you a birthday present from the first year on? <-- Jesus.

Were you ever treated with contempt? <-- Frequently and with vigorous delight.

Were you given any religious training as a young child that should have provided a substantial calmness for your life? <-- Yes and it was the worst.

Money is a problem with you. <-- Disagree. I have some and won't give it to her. That appears to be the problem.

Money represents power, BeanerJane. That's why it's so extremely important to you and why you endeavor so hard to spend as little as possible and get as much in your control as possible.

It has other uses that are beneficial to loved ones such as charity and comfort and enjoyment.

Power is one of the three major drives. You should be alert to its use in other ways that help. <-- Equals give it to MEEEEE.

So there it is. NC is looking mighty good right about now.
