Backlogging games?

I'm stuck on 3.61 because I bought a vita off someone online before knowing about it all, wanting to get into some emulated games and backing up the physical ones I have (I lose carts easily and would be happy to not have to bring them) should I backlog the games now or wait until / if I am able to use them. I'm not sure if there might be smaller or better versions out there in the future.
