I'm feeling pressured to take over my dad's car payments after his lease is up - is this a bad idea?

Auto

I own my 2008 Toyota Yaris. I bought it in 2010 off CL for a little over $6000, which was well under the Blue Book value for it's condition at the time. In the past 6 years I have put over 100,000 miles on it and a lot of wear and tear. Currently the Blue Book estimate for "fair" condition is around $4000, but there are a lot of cosmetic issues that would require putting in money to make it look nice again. I wouldn't imagine it would have a very high trade in value. Mechanically, it is sound. It has had a few minor issues, including needing a new battery and an oil leak, that have been (hopefully) resolved and have cost me under $500 total. Other than that, routine maintenance is pretty cheap as I change my own oil when I don't need to get the tires rotated.

My dad is currently leasing a 2015 Camry. His lease is up next year and he wants to know if I will buy the car after his lease is up. The amount remaining will be about $12,500. This is about half of what the car is worth right now and a much better deal than I could get almost anywhere. He keeps the car in perfect condition and only uses it to drive around town. I don't think there's more than 15,000 miles on it. It is a much nicer car, both as a model and condition-wise. But the one I have now is paid for.

I am currently in school and working full time. I'm 24 and am just entering college. I will be at community college for the next 2 years, and I have enough saved/will be working enough to the point where I do not anticipate having to take out loans to cover my comm college expenses. I will need to take out loans when I apply to the programs I want to get into (in 2018).

I make about $1200/month currently. Monthly expenses include:

Rent $500

Insurance $140 (car and renters)

Food $200-$250

Util $50-60

Misc $100 (cat food, clothing, dryer repair, etc)

I do not see any room in there to continue saving/paying for school and a car payment. My credit score is not fantastic and even though my credit union has pretty fair rates I don't know what my financing options would look like. Even if I can get monthly payments that are low, it wouldn't make sense to buy the car for a good deal if the interest was so high it didn't make it worthwhile. Is this something I should explore with the credit union to see what my options are, or is there no point to considering purchasing the car because I simply cannot afford it? My dad's point of view is that the Camry will last longer, have less maintenance costs over time, and is generally a more pleasant driving experience (all valid points). My point of view is that I don't want to struggle with payments for a car while I'm in school and working a job that doesn't pay well.

Any advice is appreciated, sorry for sounding uneducated about how leases/car payments work. It's because I am. I've been reading the "Auto" and "Debt" posts on this sub, but nothing seems to quite fit this situation.
