N64 games and lagging issues

I have retropie put on to a raspberry pi B+ and when i try to play n64 games everything is lagging a lot. I did check a few things that said upgrading to the latest pi with the 1gb of ram should help. Is that true? will this make the games playable?

My main concern is i do not want to purchase another pi if i dont have to.
