Thoughts on the army's " battle buddy" system

I really can't stand it. Out of the dozens of things I dislike about the army, this one's easily in the top 3. I'm in AIT right now. I thought the battle buddy thing was just Basic Training bullshit, something I'd never have to deal with again after graduating basic, so you can imagine how disapointed I was to encounter it again in AIT. For the army to have a "buddy system" is unnecessary, maddeningly inconvenient.... not to mention embarrassingly childish and unprofessional. The last time I had to take a "buddy" with me everywhere I went before the Army was on a goddamn 5th grade field trip. I basically don't go anywhere because of this system, with the exception of the PX occasionally. Also, the term "battle buddy " makes me cringe everytime I hear it.
