UFO broke sound barrier (secondhand story)

Before I get into the account, I want to clarify that I myself did not witness it; It was witnessed by my brother and 3 friends whom I very much trust with a subject like this. Everything stated was expressed to me by them. I'm relatively newer to Reddit, which explains the wait in time of me posting this on here.

BACKSTORY/LEADING UP TO: About 1-2 years ago, my brother and I had a few friends come over on the weekend to hang out and whatnot. 2 of the 3 friends stayed the night, but the other couldn't; He had snuck out in the first place, so he decided he would sneak back home in the earlier hours of the morning. Given he had only lived a couple miles away and had to walk home since none of us had licenses at the time and/or a means of transportation, everyone except for myself, (as I was starting to lay down), decided to walk him home at around 3:00 a.m. so he wasn't creeped out and for general safety. When my brother and 2 friends returned, they did so loudly, waking me up purposefully in order to tell me what they had just experienced. This is what I was told.

THE ENCOUNTER: About halfway through their walk on the way to our friend's house, my brother was the first to notice a bright light in the sky, which he then pointed out to everyone else. They stopped in their tracks to watch it as it was definitely abnormal. The object appeared to be as bright as Venus, but not as far and not the same color. Its color was more of a red. It wasn't moving in any one direction, more hovering, and what made the object so noticeable too was it's appearance of "fidgeting". As they were watching it, something insane happened; The object started to jump up and down at fast speeds, (accounting for distance, it seemed to be jumping distances of hundreds of feet). This jumping continued to increase in speed, (they perceived this as the craft "building up energy for a launch", or something alone those lines). After about 10 seconds or so of this jumping, the object shot off at an incredibly fast speed, so much so it gave the appearance of outright disappearing, and this "take off" was accompanied by a distant but noticeable booming sound, similar to that of a jet breaking the sound barrier. They were all telling me this pretty much at the same time, and it was all matching up to what one another said. They all seemed pretty spooked but also stoked. What I find so awesome about this is that a sonic boom was heard when the craft took off.
