Poolmining = False, but pool mining?

Hey guys, not sure if this is something that will change when I get my first payout, but I've been mining off several machines for the last few days, and so far I've done the following:

Set up my main host with my gridcoin wallet, I got some GRC from a faucet and it is now synced.

Linked to the pool account manager on all BOINC clients on each machine.

Made the suggested changes in the .conf file such as linking nodes and specifying my BOINC directories.

So I've been just trying to make sure I'm good to go, and I was curious why it has poolmining flagged as false? Do I have to wait to stake for the first time? Sorry if this is a noob question, but I've been googling around trying to get a good answer.
